Voorsitterverslag 2017

(ENGLISH BELOW)

Bestuurswetekenskappe.

In ander Simonsberger Nuus:

To all Simonsberg Old Boys

This is to convey a big note of appreciation to all those men who opened up their hearts and wallets over the last 6 weeks to respond to my request to help 2 Simonsbergers clear the outstanding monies due on their student accounts.

There was a flood of support pouring in from the old boys and it is with a grateful heart that I can report that the full amount of R170,000 was donated to help these two gents. Contributions originated from the 1st group of Simonsbergers in 1956 with representation from every other decade since the Withuis’s inception. This again demonstrates the special bond among Simonsbergers and the Withuis, and the character-defining years that we all spent whilst enjoying that beautiful holiday between your mother and your wife. Thank you to all for their gracious donations and also the interest shown to aid the guys further in their careers through mentoring after they leave Stellenbosch.

It was not only the old-boys who came to the party. Today I received the final results of the two gents and I am happy to report that both passed with marks averaging 60 and 56 respectively. Hlumelo received his degree last week and is starting his honours in BCom. Management Accounting next year, funded by ‘n HB Thom merit bursary. After 5 years of service in res, this gentleman has decided he is going private to focus on his studies. Divan is on the HK in 2018, completing his 3rd and final year of BCom. Management Sciences.

In other Simon news:

  • On 30 November the Johannesburg contingent of Simon boys showed goeie inisiatief and some lekker gees by arranging a get together of about 100 old boys in the Rand Club, downtown CBD. Thank you to James Hobson who lead the way with the admin behind organising the event and to Piet Mouton, Finfive (Pieter van Zyl) and Blue Recruiting (James Hobson) for the subsidiy to reduce ticket prices – ‘n walglike vlagpaal vir julle drie manne. Thanks also to Michael Charton visit as the esteemed guest speaker who relayed his version of the Kennedy.  Please contact James at james@bluerecruiting.co.za to be added to the Simon Jhb contact and distribution list if you want to know about future events up North. He is originally from his family farm in Frankfort, Free State, 1985 Blougat and a legendary Doopkaptein when he was on the HK in his final year in 1987. Our sincere condolences to his family that he leaves behind.  https://www.simonbond.org.za/nog-n-groote-groet-ons/
  • Leslie van Rooi (inwonende hoof) pinned down his thoughts of an empty Koshuis in the anticipation of the arrival of the 100 2018 Bloues. https://www.simonbond.org.za/uit-die-pen-van-die-inwonende-hoof-2017/
