DIE UNIVERSITEIT VAN STELLENBOSCH HET JOU STEM NODIG! STEM! STEM NOU!
Die stemproses sal minder as 2 minute neem! Doen dit NOU!

THE UNIVERSITY OF STELLENBOSCH NEEDS YOU! VOTE! VOTE NOW!
The University of Stellenbosch, as is the case for all South African Universities, will be going through a period of testing times in the next few years, a true fight for survival. Successful navigation through these times will require experienced leaders from the business community to apply some experience gained in the private sector to steer and execute operational, financial, structural and long term strategic decision making. Historically the University Council has never had a shortage of support for candidates originating from the academic environment, and proportionally the number of votes from alumni out of private sector has been very low compared to that originating from academics.
To achieve a healthier balance on the US Council between candidates from academic and business background, we want to urge you to vote in this year’s election of the University Council. It is very easy and can be done online in less than 2 minutes.
Acquaint yourself with the candidates who have made themselves available for election by clicking here. You can vote for a maximum of 3 candidates, and after you have made up your mind, vote immediately. The election closes on 9 March 2016.
We suggest that along with any other candidates you wish to support (if any), you include Chris Otto in your vote on behalf of the Oudbond of Simonsergers. More about Chris:
Chris is an ex Eendragger and was nominated by his longtime business partner and Simon Old Boy, Jannie Mouton (PSG), Michiel le Roux (Capitec), George Steyn (Pepkor, US Council chairman and son of Gyst Steyn, Simonsberg’s 1st prim), Andreas van Wyk (ex-rector), Jannie Durand (Remgro), Edwin Cameron (constitutional court judge) and Hannes Koornhof (retired moderator of the Dutch Reformed Church).
Chris studied for his B.Comm and LLB at Stellenbosch. He is an experienced business leader and director of PSG Group, Capitec Bank and Zeder. He still serves on the board of all these companies. He is a significant donor to Stellenbosch University and is chairman of the Law Faculty Trust.
Chris Otto himself states: “I am passionate about Stellenbosch, excellence, inclusiveness, sport, justice and the future. I expect that difficult times lie ahead for all universities. I am Afrikaans, and believe the University of Stellenbosch should accommodate Afrikaans, but language should not prevent us from producing national and international leaders. Graduates from our law faculty must become chief justices of South Africa.”
