    Universiteit Stellenbosch Raads verkiesing: Phillip Woest

    Beste Oud-Simonsberger,

    Phillip Woest (Primarius 1978) is genomineer as kandidaat vir die vulling van vakatures op die US-Raad.

    Ons maak staat op u stem om Phillip in die posisie te plaas om ‘n merkwaardige verskil te maak. Daar is ‘n bekende Griekse spreekwoord wat sê:

    “A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.”
    Kom ons maak seker die toekoms van ons nageslag word na omgesien en beskerm.

    Meer oor Phillip en sy visiestelling vir die Universiteit van Stellenbosch:
    Phillip is ‘n oud-Simonsberger (1974-78) wat twee jaar ‘n Huiskomitee-lid was en Primarius in 1978. Hy verteenwoordig Maties in junior en senior rugby, en Westelike Provinsie en Suid-Afrikaanse Universiteite op O/20 vlak. Na verwerfing van die B.Ing. (Meganiese Ingenieurswese) graad begin hy sy loopbaan as ‘n ontwerp-ingenieur en raadgewende ingenieur. Phillip verwerf later die Sertifikaat van Bevoegtheid as Werktuigkundige Ingenieur (Fabrieke) en ‘n MBA aan PU vir CHO. Phillip het uitgebreide ingenieurswese en uitvoerende leierskap ervaring in beide die privaat en openbare sektore. Hy het ‘n verskeidenheid bestuursposisies by Sasol Synfuels beklee as Lid van die Uitvoerende Span. Phillip was die bestuursborg en voorsitter vir Sasol se voorgraadse studiebeurse en na-kwalifikasie praktiese opleiding. Hy het Sasol verteenwoordig in aangeleenthede met betrekking tot die Suid-Afrikaanse Bouomgewing Wet en Beleide, en die Ingenieurswese Raad van Suid-Afrika. Phillip is sedert 2012 ‘n konsultant in die Midde-Ooste  gemoeid met opleiding en ontwikkeling van Qataris ter ondersteuning van die Qatar Nasionale Visie 2030 en die Energie en Nywerheid Sektor se doelwit van 50% Qatari verteenwoordiging in sodanige Sektor. Aldaar dien Phillip ook op verskeie Program Advieskomitees van die College of North Atlantic – Qatar.

     

    Phillip se Visies vir die Universiteit is:

     

    • Dat die Universiteit die top Universiteit in Suid-Afrika sal wees, en dat die Universiteit geoordeel sal word as synde een van die 100 top Universiteite in die wêreld;
    • ‘n Universiteit verbind tot die versekering van ‘n inklusiewe kultuur vir personeel en studente, en wat bekend staan vir Onderrig en Navorsing van die hoogste gehalte gemeet aan internasionale vlakke van uitnemendheid;
    • ‘n Universiteit wat kampus-omgewings skep wat individuele studente ondersteun tot uitmuntendheid en wat gekenmerk word deur ‘n blywende gemeenskapsgevoel. Die persoonlike ervarings van akademiese identiteit wat die omgewings verskaf is blywend met trots, en;
    • ‘n Universiteit wat bydra tot innoverende oplossings om onderwysbenadeelde leerlinge wat hullle hoërskool loopbaan voltooi het, voor te berei om aan die gepaste hoë toelatingsvereistes van die onderskeie Akademiese Fakulteite te voldoen.

    More about Phillip and his vision for the University of Stellenbosch:
    Phillip is an old-Simonsberger (1974-78) that was a Residence Committee Member for two years and Primarius in 1978. He represented the Maties in junior and senior rugby, and Western Province and South African Universities on U/20 level. After obtaining the B.Eng. (Mechanical Engineering) degree, he started his career as a design engineer and as a consulting engineer in private practice. Phillip later obtained the Mechanical Engineer’s Certificate of Competency (Factories) and a MBA at PU for CHE. Phillip has extensive engineering and executive leadership experience in the private and public sectors. He served in a variety of management positions at Sasol Synfuels as a Member of the Executive Team. Phillip was the management sponsor and chairperson for Sasol’s undergraduate scholarships and post-qualification practical training. He represented Sasol in matters relating to the South African Built Environment Act and Policies, and the Engineering Council of South Africa. Since 2012, Phillip is a consultant in the Middle East involved in learning and development of Qataris in support of the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Energy and Industry Sector’s goal of 50% representation of Qataris in the Sector. Phillip further serves on various Program Advisory Committees at the College of North Atlantic – Qatar.

    Phillip’s Vision for the University is:
